Mohamed Mohieldin Ahmed. ‘Teaching Arabic Language Skills for Beginners According to the Objectives of Common European Framework Reference (CEFR), Through Computer Based Language Learning Games.’ Second International Conference for teaching Arabic, University of Jordan April 21st to 23rd, 2015.

ABSTRACT

The Council of Europe recommends using the CEFR for assessing language skills of learners of additional languages. CEFR recommends using the communicative approach, where the student is at the centre of the learning process. Use of technology in education is growing and forces educators to create new teaching methods using technology. This research aims to develop teaching methods for teaching and learning the Arabic language skills focusing on beginners (A1 level on CEFR scale) through computer language learning games in and outside the classroom, and to set a model of computer language learning games that can be used for teaching Arabic language to speakers of other languages. This research is based on analysing and describing methods by explaining how teachers can use online language learning games to achieve the objectives set out in CEFR. The proposed method consists of ten steps that could develop all the language skills through online language learning games. The proposed method in this research puts students in the centre of the learning process and provides the communicative approach by helping students to use online language learning games using computers, phones and tablets. Finally this research recommends the use of online language learning games in the process of teaching and learning a foreign language.
