WHAT IS IT?
The Test of Proficiency in Korean (한국어능력시험), or TOPIK, is an international standardized test of Korean language proficiency for non-native Korean language speakers. It has two levels – TOPIK 1 and TOPIK 2. TOPIK 1, the basic level, tests listening and reading skills. TOPIK 2, the intermediate and advanced level, tests listening, reading, and writing skills.
WHAT IS THE USE OF TEST RESULTS?
– Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) students
– Entrance into Korean Universities as a non-native Korean Speaker
– Employment in companies and public institutions both in Korea and abroad
– Acquisition of a Korean Language Instructor certification as a non-native Korean speaker
– Obtaining permanent residency or other specific visa types in Korea
– ‘Korea Immigration and Integration Program’ operated by the Ministry of Justice

TOPIK level 1 certificate holders can take LK-2403 Korean 2 or LK-2404 Korean 3.
TOPIK level 2 certificate holders can take LK-2404 Korean 3 or LK-3402 Korean 4.
TOPIK level 3 certificate holders can take LK-3403 Korean 5 or LK-3404 Korean 6.
WHICH LEVEL SHOULD I TAKE?
We recommend students who studied:
LK-2403/LK-2404/3402 to take TOPIK 1
LK-3403/LK-3404 to take TOPIK 2

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE TEST BE HELD?
Every second or third Sunday of April at the Language Centre, UBD
Test results will be announced 6 weeks after the test at the TOPIK website (www.topik.go.kr).

HOW DO I APPLY?
You can only apply for TOPIK at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea (http://overseas.mofa.go.kr/bn-ko/index.do) during the application period in January every year. Form can be downloaded at the Korean Embassy website or provided at the Language Centre during the application period only.
